A Message from Wellspring
To our community of social justice and human rights supporters and grantees,
After careful thought and consideration, Wellspring’s Board of Trustees has made the decision to wind down Wellspring over the next few years and complete all grantmaking by the end of 2028. The Board made the difficult decision to wind down Wellspring after deeply considering a combination of factors that included a leadership transition that involved my pending retirement as the foundation’s President, which would have moved Wellspring away from being a family-led foundation. This decision was not one that our Board made lightly, and it comes after much contemplation. The Board, and Wellspring as a whole, are incredibly proud of the organizations and the work that Wellspring has funded over more than two decades to uphold human dignity, reduce inequality, enhance the voice and agency of marginalized communities, and promote more accountable systems of power. We have drawn inspiration from our grantees’ victories and have stood in solidarity with them during the setbacks. Through the work of dedicated and amazing organizations, Wellspring, as an institution, and our committed staff, have been reminded of the power of movements to demand more and to drive change and build agency for individuals. Wellspring remains committed to supporting our grantees through this transition.
